About Portfolio
Compound (COMP) is the governance token of Compound, a decentralized lending and borrowing protocol built on Ethereum. It enables users to earn interest on supplied assets or borrow against crypto collateral, using automated money markets with algorithmically set interest rates.
Governance & Token Utility
The COMP token allows holders to propose and vote on protocol changes, such as collateral factors, supported assets, and treasury usage. Governance is fully on-chain, using delegation, proposal thresholds, and time delays to ensure decentralized and transparent control over the protocol.
Key Milestones & Ecosystem Growth
Founded in 2018 by Compound Labs, led by Robert Leshner and Geoffrey Hayes
Launched the COMP token in 2020 to transition protocol control to the community
Raised over $70 million from leading venture capital firms
Rolled out multiple protocol versions (v2, v3) and introduced cross-chain infrastructure like Compound Gateway
Became a foundational building block in the Ethereum DeFi ecosystem
Network Architecture
Users supply assets to liquidity pools and receive interest-bearing cTokens
Borrowers access over-collateralized loans using supported crypto assets
Interest rates adjust automatically based on market utilization
Protocol operates through smart contracts, with risk parameters managed by COMP token holders via on-chain governance
